I see a dark, cloaked figure who looks somewhat melancholy. It looks to me like his cloak is pulled up to mask his face. He looks out over a river at a castle—is this the goal? There is a bridge in the distance, so he could reach it. But does he want to? Does he feel worthy? Is he sure it’s what he wants?
Next to him are five cups on the ground. Three are spilled, pouring out a red liquid. Is it wine… or blood? Two remain. How did they get knocked over? Maybe he accidentally did it himself—is that why he seems upset? Maybe someone else knocked them over, in which case is he disappointed?
To me, this card seems to depict a man nearing the end of his journey, who could move forward but who maybe is weighed down either by himself or the weight of the world.
The card itself does appear quite melancholy. The largest spots of a colour that is neither sickly nor dark are in the spilled liquid and the man’s shoes. Everything else seems to lack vibrancy.
